Claudia Chin Haussmann is a lyric soprano of mixed European and Chinese Jamaican heritage, whose recent appearances include her professional role debut as Young Artist Sandmännchen in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel at Opera Holland Park. She is currently a mentee on Pegasus Opera Company’s Mentoring Programme for singers of global majority heritage, delivered in partnership with Glyndebourne, and was previously selected as an Emerging Artist on Opera Greenwich’s Talent Development Programme 2024/2025.
Claudia’s upcoming engagements in 2025 include two major role debuts: Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with Opera Greenwich and Liù in Puccini’s Turandot with Instant Opera.
Her operatic repertoire spans a range of composers and styles including: Tina (Flight), Mélisande (Pelléas et Mélisande), Blanche de la Force (Dialogues des Carmélites), Valletto (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Sāvitri (Sāvitri), Soprano 1 in Le vin herbé, Despina (Così fan tutte), Frasquita (Carmen), Musetta (La Bohème), Poussette (Manon), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Zdenka (Arabella), Alice (Falstaff), Erste Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Laoula (L’étoile), and Saffi (The Gipsy Baron), performing with companies such as Opera Holland Park, Instant Opera, Opera Greenwich, Dulwich Opera Company, OperaCoast, Southgate Opera, Associated Studios, and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Her chorus experience includes multiple productions with Opera Holland Park, including Der fliegende Holländer, Tosca, Edgar, Eugene Onegin, and Ruddigore (in collaboration with Charles Court Opera). She has also sung in productions with Longborough Festival Opera (Anna Bolena, Der fliegende Holländer), Scottish Opera (The Fiery Angel), English National Opera/RCS (The Day After), and West Green House Opera (L’elisir d’amore), among others. Additional appearances include chorus work with Chelsea Opera, Midsummer Opera, HeadFirst Productions, Dulwich Opera Company, Instant Opera, and Southgate Opera, in repertoire ranging from The Tales of Hoffmann and HMS Pinafore to La Vie Parisienne and Eugene Onegin.
Claudia is equally at home on the concert stage. She has performed works including Vivaldi’s Gloria, Schubert’s Mass in G, Britten’s Spring Symphony, Dvořák’s Mass in D, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, and Bach’s Weihnachts-Oratorium. She held the John Ireland Choral Scholarship with Sloane Square Choral Society (2014–2015) and sang with Les Sirènes Female Chamber Choir, winners of the 2012 BBC Choir of the Year Competition. She has performed at numerous events such as the Capel Manor Proms, the Enfield Choral and Orchestral Festival, and Music on the Lawn at Forty Hall Estate, where she also headlined her own recital: An Evening of Light Opera and Song.
Claudia has been recognised for her talent with the Les Aldrich Music Prize at the North London Music Festival (2015) for “Most Outstanding Singer,” in addition to winning the gold medal in the Operatic class and a silver medal in the Lieder/Mélodie category. She participated in British Youth Opera’s Summer Workshop, studying with director Will Kerley and coach Liz Rowe, and has benefitted from masterclasses and coaching with leading artists including Dame Josephine Barstow, Giselle Allen, Jean Rigby, Kate Royal, Graeme Danby, Malcolm Martineau, Timothy Redmond, Michael Lloyd, David Cowan, Karen Cargill, Rachel Nicholls, and Nadine Secunde.
Claudia completed her formal training at the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she was awarded the Mary Garden Scholarship. Her studies and artistic development have been generously supported by the Mary Garden Scholarship, Trades House Scholarship, RCS Trust, the Laurent-Quigley family, The Clemence Charitable Trust, The Mario Lanza Educational Foundation, Split Infinitive Trust, and The Katie Choules Memorial Trust.
